Indonesian Conference and Cultural Event 2010, April 16

Annual event discusses, celebrates, and shares Indonesian cultural diversity

This year’s annual, student-organized Indonesian Conference and Cultural Event (ICCE 2010) will be held on Friday April 16th 2010, from 2 – 9 p.m. at the East-West Center’s Hawaii Imin International Conference Center. Admission to the conference and cultural celebration is free and open to public.

This year’s topic is ‘Indonesia’s Roles in Asia Pacific Community’. Indonesia, as the biggest country in South East Asia, have influential roles in the region's economy, governance, music and many other aspects. This conference will discuss about these effects Indonesia has given to its neighbors and many other countries specifically in South East Asia specifically, and Asia Pacific more broadly.

ICCE 2010 is an opportunity for scholars and students to discuss current Indonesian issues and share Indonesian culture with others without promoting a particular political or religious message. Two seminar sessions at the conference will cover contemporary role of Indonesia in regional cooperation, politics, and arts and culture, with speakers including professors and graduate students from University of Hawai'i at Manoa. The cultural celebration will include exhibits, traditional dance and music from four corners of Indonesia, ethnic fashion show, and Indonesian food.

This event is organized by the Indonesian Student Association in the U.S. (PERMIAS) Hawaii Chapter, Nusantara Society, and Nongkrong Yuk! Indonesian Club (both at UH Manoa); co-sponsored by the Embassy and Consulate General of Indonesia in the U.S., Honorary Council for Indonesia in Hawai'i, and the East West Center Education Program, and partially funded by the Associated Students of University of Hawai'i at Manoa (ASUH) and Student Activities and Program Fee Board (SAPFB).
